Government party member demands recognition of Tarique Rahman as ‘Child Freedom Fighter’
Thirteenth Parliament Session
BNP MP Mujibur Rahman has demanded that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and his brother, the late Arafat Rahman, be recognized as ‘child freedom fighters’. He has also sought recognition of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia as a freedom fighter.
Mujibur Rahman, an elected MP from Gazipur-1 constituency, made this demand while participating in the discussion on the motion of thanks on the President’s address in the National Assembly on Wednesday. Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed presided over the session.
Mujibur Rahman, a ruling party MP, praised Prime Minister Tarique Rahman for nominating him. Mentioning that the people gifted the seat to BNP after 30 years, he said, ‘I promised the people that if you gift this seat, patriot Tarique Rahman will participate in the public meeting at Bhawal Field if he becomes the Prime Minister.’ This MP said, ‘The people there are now waiting for the kind arrival of the Honorable Prime Minister.’
At this stage, Mujibur Rahman said, the name of a revolution of the oppressed and oppressed is Tarique Rahman. The people of Gazipur are excited by the slogan of the Prime Minister’s greatest quote, ‘Bangladesh first’. He said, ‘One of my emotions is that in the 1971 war of independence, our beloved leader, our mother Begum Khaleda Zia and her brothers were imprisoned by the Pakistanis. Our Prime Minister (Tareque Rahman) was imprisoned for 9 months. If there is an opportunity, I demand that Begum Khaleda Zia be recognized as a freedom fighter for her contribution to the war of independence, and that our Prime Minister be recognized as a child freedom fighter, and that her brother, our brother, be recognized as a child freedom fighter.’ Mujibur Rahman claimed that he was not making this proposal to please the Prime Minister.
