Constable recruitment: 126,000 youth of the country dream of becoming a police officer

126,000 youth from all over the country have applied for the post of Trainee Recruit Constable (TRC) in the police force. This huge application has been submitted as part of the government’s special efforts to ensure public safety and alleviate the manpower crisis. An average of 47 candidates will fight for each post in this competition organized against 2,703 vacant posts. Police Headquarters Public Relations Officer Kamrul Ahsan confirmed this information to Prothom Alo.

The new government now sees overcoming the crisis of trust that arose among the general public in the police after the 2024 student uprising as a major challenge. In his first address to the nation, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman laid special emphasis on improving the law and order situation in the country. He gave clear instructions to increase the effectiveness of the police to ensure public safety and restore discipline within the force. After the Prime Minister’s message, the Police Headquarters paid special attention to increasing manpower. Those concerned believe that it is possible to bring about a positive change in the image of the force by recruiting a new generation of educated and professional youth.

Police Headquarters Public Relations Officer Kamrul Ahsan said that the application process for the post of constable has already been completed. This time, 126,000 applications have been submitted. This regular recruitment process is being conducted mainly with the aim of filling the vacant posts and taking police services to the grassroots.

Home Minister’s instructions and manpower crisis

The background for this recruitment of the police has been created under the direct instructions of the top level of the government. Immediately after taking charge as the Home Minister, Salahuddin Ahmed brought up the issue of manpower crisis at all levels of the police. In a meeting on February 23, he urged to fill the vacant posts quickly. The Home Minister had said that there is a shortage of manpower at all levels of the police to ensure effective service at the field level. In view of this, orders have been given to fill the vacant posts of 2,703 constables on an urgent basis. In addition, on February 26, the minister announced the rapid recruitment of 180 vacant posts of police sergeants. The application period for recruitment of young people with graduation and technical skills to the position of sergeant has already ended.

Strict message to prevent lobbying and fraud

A strict warning has been issued from the Police Headquarters regarding recruitment. It has been stated that any kind of financial transaction or political lobbying will be considered as a disqualification of the candidate. To ensure transparency and stop the violence of brokers, a ‘zero tolerance’ policy is being followed at every level. If any fraud or untruth is found in the information provided by the candidate at any stage, then the application will be immediately canceled and legal action will be taken against him. 1 lakh 26 thousand youth between the ages of 18 and 20 are now waiting for the field-level physical examination and preparation for the next steps.
