The drive was conducted from noon to afternoon on Monday (April 6) at the Medistar General Hospital and Diagnostics located on Nabab Salimullah Road and the Polyclinic on BB Road in the city under the leadership of District Administration Executive Magistrate Md. Tariqul Islam.
According to district administration sources, Executive Magistrate Tariqul Islam started the mobile court drive with law enforcement and district administration officials to ensure the quality of healthcare for the people. Initially, when he visited the Medistar General Hospital and Renesa Lab located on Nabab Salimullah Road, it was found that the price list of services was not proper and that more money was being collected than the prescribed rate. More alarming information came out when it was seen that no protocol was being followed in the OT and post OT rooms and there was a lack of proper sterilization. In addition, the Executive Magistrate imposed a fine of Tk 3 lakh on the Medistar General Hospital authorities under the Consumer Rights Protection Act for failing to show proof of the qualifications of lab technicians and nurses.
Later, a raid was conducted at the Poly Clinic and Diagnostic Center located on BB Road, and it was found that there was no valid license and that all sensitive pathology tests were being conducted by ordinary employees without any pathologist. The institution was fined Tk 2 lakh 5 thousand for serious irregularities including operating the lab by setting a fake price.
Executive Magistrate Tariqul Islam said that the district administration will continue such campaigns to prevent such irregularities in the health sector and to ensure the quality of medical services to the people. If any complaint of irregularities is received against any healthcare institution, a mobile court campaign will be conducted.
